Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a major relief initiative ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, approving the distribution of 100 truckloads of rice alongside ₦1.2 billion in financial support for vulnerable families across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The programme, carried out in partnership with the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, led by Ibrahim Masari, is aimed at easing the economic burden on Muslim communities during the festive season.
Speaking at the launch event in Kaduna, the First Lady said the intervention reflects the core values of Eid-el-Kabir—sacrifice, compassion, and generosity—by providing timely support to those in need.
She explained that the items and funds would be distributed through state-level committees to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries efficiently.
Oluremi Tinubu also highlighted that the initiative builds on a similar outreach conducted in December 2025, when support was extended to Christian communities in Northern Nigeria, describing the effort as a reflection of inclusiveness.
Reaffirming the government’s direction, she stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains focused on reforms that will bring long-term improvements to citizens’ welfare.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who also spoke at the event, praised the initiative as a clear example of people-focused leadership and unity. He added that his administration would continue to introduce measures to reduce the impact of economic challenges, including support for small businesses, youth empowerment, agriculture, and security.
He further encouraged Nigerians, especially the Muslim faithful, to remain patient and united, while urging community and religious leaders to promote peace and cooperation across the country.
