The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed the arrest of two candidates and a parent for allegedly falsifying their 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results using artificial intelligence and other digital tools.

In a statement issued on Friday, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin revealed that the suspects were caught altering official SMS result notifications to misrepresent their scores and mislead others, including parents and guardians.

He described the act as a serious offence, warning that the board will take firm legal action against anyone involved in such fraudulent practices.

JAMB also cautioned candidates against tampering with result messages sent through its official SMS channels, 55019 and 66019, emphasizing that these are the only authorised platforms for checking UTME results.

Meanwhile, the board announced the release of results for over 600,000 candidates who sat for the exam on April 16. Candidates can check their scores by sending “UTMERESULT” via SMS to the approved numbers using the phone number linked to their registration.

The examination, which began on April 16, is scheduled to run until April 22 across centres nationwide, with results expected to be released in phases as the process continues.
