The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has made it clear that it will fully participate in the 2027 general elections, regardless of any decision by opposition parties to boycott the process.
This position was stated by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.
Morka was responding to growing calls from some opposition figures urging parties to withdraw from the elections over alleged bias by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and fears of an unfair contest.
He stressed that APC has no intention of stepping aside, noting that Nigeria’s democratic system guarantees all registered parties the right to contest elections.
According to him, several political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, are still active and expected to field candidates, alongside many other registered parties.
Morka dismissed suggestions that APC might withdraw if others boycott, insisting the party would continue its preparations and compete fully in line with constitutional provisions.
He also challenged opposition parties to focus on strengthening their internal structures instead of blaming APC, questioning their readiness for the upcoming elections.
The APC spokesperson further accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of reacting emotionally to recent developments, urging its leadership to take responsibility for internal issues rather than shifting blame.
Meanwhile, calls for a possible boycott have intensified among opposition figures, who argue that participating in what they describe as an unfair process could legitimise a flawed system.
Notable voices, including Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, have suggested that opposition parties should consider withdrawing collectively if conditions do not improve.
The situation has been further complicated by INEC’s decision to derecognise a faction of the ADC linked to David Mark, deepening divisions within the opposition.
As debates continue, the APC has maintained that it will proceed with its campaign efforts, while opposition parties weigh their next move ahead of the 2027 elections.
