Members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Ogun State have announced a mass defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a major political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
The decision was revealed by the party’s state secretary, Rasaq Shofowora, following an expanded meeting held in Abeokuta and led by the state chairman, Femi Aina.
According to Shofowora, party leaders and members across all 20 local government areas agreed to move en masse to the ADC. He explained that the resolution was reached after thorough discussions and reflects a broader plan to reposition politically ahead of upcoming elections.
He noted that members have shown strong support for Aina’s leadership, expressing confidence in his direction and integrity.
Aina, in turn, assured members that necessary steps had been put in place to ensure a smooth transition into the ADC. He also disclosed plans for further consultations with the ADC leadership in the state to strengthen the alliance.
The move, he said, is part of a wider strategy aimed at building a stronger opposition capable of challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Party members reportedly welcomed the development and have been encouraged to complete their registration with the ADC while awaiting further guidance.
This development aligns with earlier indications that the NNPP intends to collaborate with the ADC at the national level, particularly in the presidential race, while still fielding candidates in other electoral contests.
