The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that it has no plans at the moment to organise state or local government congresses across the country.
The party was responding to a media report that quoted its National Chairman, Senator David Mark, as allegedly directing members to commence state and local government congresses to elect new officials. ADC described the report as false and entirely fabricated.
In a statement jointly issued and made available to journalists, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, Chairman of the ADC in Kogi State and Chairman of the ADC Chairmen’s Forum, alongside Hon. Kennedy Odion, Edo State ADC Chairman and Secretary of the forum, said the publication did not originate from the party’s leadership.
According to the statement, members of the ADC Chairmen’s Forum met with Senator David Mark on Monday, during which he categorically denied issuing or authorising any directive for the conduct of congresses at the state or local government levels.
The National Chairman, the statement said, confirmed that the alleged directive was unknown to him and had not been discussed or approved by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
As a result, the ADC declared the publication null, invalid and without any legal or administrative effect, urging party members, stakeholders and the general public to completely ignore it.
The party further emphasised that any information suggesting that ADC is preparing to hold congresses across states and local governments is entirely false and misleading.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the forum’s full support and loyalty to the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee, pledging commitment to strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contests, including the 2027 general elections.
