The National Youth Council of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted a recent television interview by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing his comments as driven more by personal ambition than leadership.

In a statement issued by its representative, Mohammed Rabiu, the group expressed concern that Atiku’s remarks could undermine the unity of the emerging political coalition.

The council pointed to ongoing disagreements within the party in Adamawa State as evidence of internal challenges, citing unresolved issues around congress arrangements that have reportedly left key figures dissatisfied.

According to the statement, notable politicians such as Aisha Binani and Ishaku Abbo are said to be unhappy with the situation, with warnings that the tensions could weaken party cohesion if not addressed promptly.

The group argued that Atiku should focus on resolving internal disputes and strengthening unity within the party rather than engaging in public political exchanges. It also referenced ongoing legal matters involving Nafiu Bala Gombe, suggesting that such issues should be settled before broader political debates.

In addition, the council called on other prominent political figures—including Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi—to avoid escalating tensions, commending them for maintaining restraint so far.

The statement further alleged that some individuals around Atiku may be influencing his actions for personal benefit, warning that such dynamics could weaken his political standing.

Concluding, the youth council cautioned that excessive ambition could threaten the unity of the coalition, urging leaders to prioritise collaboration and stability within the party.
