Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed claims that he has stepped down from office, describing the reports as false and misleading.

The denial comes amid growing speculation about his political future, especially following a Federal Government directive requiring appointees with ambitions for the 2027 elections to resign.

Reacting through his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, the minister clarified that there is no truth to the resignation rumours, stressing that Adelabu remains focused on his duties in the power sector.

According to the aide, the widely circulated resignation letter is fake, with evidence provided to back the claim.

The speculation appears to have been fueled by the minister’s recent comments, where he acknowledged the timeline for political decisions but stopped short of confirming any intention to resign.

Adelabu had earlier stated that his primary focus remains addressing Nigeria’s electricity challenges, adding that any decision regarding a possible governorship bid in Oyo State would be made in due time.

His remarks come as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed all political appointees planning to contest in the 2027 elections to resign before the end of March 2026, in line with the Electoral Act.

While Adelabu has not officially declared his intention, talks about a potential governorship run in Oyo State continue to generate political interest, with other contenders also emerging within the party.
