A senior figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has advised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), particularly the faction led by David Mark, to stop linking President Bola Tinubu to the party’s ongoing leadership issues.
In a statement released in Osogbo on Monday, Oyintiloye criticised what he described as attempts to wrongly hold Tinubu responsible for the turmoil within the ADC. He urged the party’s leadership to be honest with Nigerians and address its internal challenges rather than shifting blame.
He stressed that Tinubu, as President, is not responsible for judicial decisions, noting that it was the court that directed the party to revert to its former leadership pending the outcome of a case at the Federal High Court.
Oyintiloye maintained that the President has no reason to interfere in another party’s affairs, adding that Tinubu’s democratic credentials make such actions unnecessary, especially ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also clarified that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision not to recognise any faction of the ADC was based strictly on a court ruling, not political influence.
Advising the ADC further, he called on its members to focus on resolving their differences internally instead of engaging in accusations, warning that negative tactics would not improve the party’s standing.
He encouraged politicians to operate within the law and seek legal remedies when necessary, rather than resorting to public attacks.
Responding to claims that Nigeria is moving toward a one-party system, Oyintiloye dismissed the notion, pointing out that there are currently 21 registered political parties eligible to participate in the 2027 general elections.
He concluded by urging opposition leaders to concentrate on strengthening their parties and addressing internal disputes, adding that criticism alone would not stop the President from achieving electoral success in 2027.
