Former Vice President and presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised serious concerns over the ongoing detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, urging the Federal Government to provide clarity on which security agency is holding him—be it the EFCC, ICPC, SSS, or any other arm of the state.

In a statement shared on X, Atiku stressed that secrecy surrounding El-Rufai’s detention fuels suspicion and undermines public trust. He called for the government to guarantee the former governor’s health, safety, dignity, and access to family and legal counsel.

“At a minimum, if authorities cannot safeguard his wellbeing and constitutional rights, he must be granted bail immediately. Any harm that befalls El-Rufai while in custody will be the responsibility of this government,” Atiku warned.

He further decried what he described as the growing perception of selective prosecution, where opposition figures face intense scrutiny while others remain shielded, cautioning that anti-corruption efforts should never be used as a political weapon.

“Justice must be transparent. Accountability must be even-handed. The rule of law must apply to all—without fear, without favour, and without political bias,” Atiku concluded.
