The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has upheld the Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti, ruling that the upper chamber acted within the scope of its constitutional authority.
In a unanimous verdict delivered on Monday by a three-man panel, the appellate court dismissed Akpoti’s appeal against the Clerk of the National Assembly and three other respondents in suit number CA/ABJ/CV/1107/2025.
The court held that the suspension did not violate her constitutional rights or parliamentary privileges.
However, the court overturned the contempt ruling against the senator and nullified the ₦5 million fine imposed on her over a satirical apology addressed to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The judgment effectively affirms the suspension while relieving the lawmaker of the penalties linked to the contempt proceedings.
