Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has called on England manager Thomas Tuchel to consider including three United players—Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Kobbie Mainoo—in the national team setup ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Since taking charge of the England national football team in January 2025, Tuchel has yet to select any Manchester United player, with Marcus Rashford only featuring during his loan spells away from the club.

Carrick believes the current form of the trio makes them strong contenders for selection, particularly with international friendlies against Japan and Uruguay scheduled later this month. He noted that their recent performances have placed them firmly in contention for a place in the squad.

Maguire, an experienced defender with multiple tournament appearances, has not featured for England in over a year. Mainoo, who impressed during Euro 2024 and was once seen as a key figure for the future, recently regained form after a difficult spell at club level. Shaw, another regular in past international tournaments, is also pushing for a return.

Under Carrick’s guidance, the trio have been instrumental in Manchester United’s resurgence, helping the team climb up the league standings following a difficult period under former manager Ruben Amorim.

Although Carrick confirmed he has not directly communicated with Tuchel regarding selections, he emphasized that the players’ performances speak for themselves and have earned them a genuine chance of being included.
