Napoli head coach Antonio Conte has indicated he would be open to taking over as head coach of the Italy national football team, a role that has become vacant following the departure of Gennaro Gattuso.
Conte’s contract with Napoli runs until 2027, and despite the club’s strong position in Serie A, rumours continue to swirl around his future, especially after Italy’s disappointing failure to reach the upcoming World Cup — a third straight absence.
Speaking to reporters after Napoli’s 1–0 league win over AC Milan, Conte said he expected to be among the names considered for the Azzurri job. “If I were the president of the football federation, I would include my name on the list of candidates,” he said, acknowledging his long experience and past stint in charge of the national side.
Conte previously managed the Italian national team between 2014 and 2016, leading them to the quarter‑finals of Euro 2016. He said he would discuss his future with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis after the current season before making any decisions.
As Italy searches for a new leader to rebuild after its recent setbacks, Conte is widely seen as one of the top candidates to take the job.
