During his attendance at the Imo State Economic Summit 2025 in Owerri,

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson actively dismissed global concerns about insecurity, declaring he felt “perfectly safe” in Nigeria.

Johnson’s statement directly challenged the widespread perception—fueled by reports of mass abductions and bandit attacks—that had led to pre-trip security warnings. He told the audience that despite these alerts, he proceeded with the visit, questioning whether they, too, felt secure at the conference.

In addition to addressing security, the former UK leader used his keynote to commend Governor Hope Uzodimma’s ambitious drive for 24-hour electricity, calling the plan vital for Nigeria’s future in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Johnson also celebrated the enduring cultural and economic relationship between the two nations, noting the flow of talent and resources, a message that reinforced the idea of a mutually beneficial partnership.
