Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, has named popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The announcement was made in an official statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor. According to the statement, the appointment is part of the administration’s plan to strengthen communication and improve public participation in government programmes and policies.
Johnson-Okojie, a respected actress, filmmaker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, has spent nearly two decades in the film industry, appearing in over 200 productions. Through her foundation, she has supported initiatives focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education, and healthcare outreach.
The government expressed confidence that her strong public presence and grassroots connection will help bridge the gap between the state government and the people.
Her husband, Odianosen Okogie, currently represents Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
This development has already sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians reacting to the actress’s transition into public service.
