The Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been granted special admission into the Faculty of Law at Northwest University, Kano, to pursue a degree in law, the institution has confirmed.
In an official letter dated 12 January 2026, the university’s Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records advised that Sanusi satisfied the requirements for special consideration and was admitted into Level 200 of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Common Law and Shariah for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The admission — addressed to the Emir at his palace in Gidan Rumfa, Kano — is subject to his compliance with the university’s regulations and completion of necessary registration procedures with the appropriate departments.
Northwest University expressed congratulations to Sanusi and wished him success in his academic pursuit.
Dr. Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is well known for his extensive educational background.
He previously earned degrees in economics from Ahmadu Bello University, studied Islamic disciplines in Khartoum, and was awarded a PhD in Islamic Law from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
