Three Crew Members Missing After Attack on Thai Cargo Ship Near Strait of Hormuz

Three sailors are currently unaccounted for after a Thai-flagged cargo vessel, Mayuree Naree, was struck by projectiles while navigating waters near the Strait of Hormuz on March 11.

The vessel, which had 23 crew members onboard, reportedly suffered an explosion near its engine section, triggering a fire and forcing the crew to abandon the ship. Emergency rescue efforts managed to evacuate 20 sailors, who were later rescued by the Omani Navy, while search operations continue for the remaining three crew members.

Shipping records indicate the vessel had departed from the United Arab Emirates and was heading toward India when the incident occurred. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the attack or identify those responsible.

The Strait of Hormuz, linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, is one of the world’s most strategic maritime routes, handling a large share of global oil shipments. Any security incident in the area often raises international concern due to its impact on global trade and energy supplies.

The attack comes amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where ongoing conflicts have increased risks for commercial vessels navigating the region. Maritime security agencies are continuing to monitor the situation as rescue teams work to locate the missing crew members.
