Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that the ongoing reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt is expected to be completed and ready for occupation by the first quarter of 2027.
The governor made the disclosure on Monday during an inspection tour of the multi-block administrative complex located in the Old GRA area of Port Harcourt.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, the visit was aimed at assessing the current level of progress on the large-scale renovation project.
Fubara explained that he had previously observed the exterior transformation of the facility but decided to carry out a detailed internal inspection to verify the quality and extent of ongoing work.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, noting confidence that the project would be delivered within the expected timeframe.
“We just carried out an inspection of the Secretariat renovation. I had seen the outward appearance changing, but I wanted to confirm the progress inside the buildings,” the governor said.
“With the level of work done so far, I believe that by the first quarter of next year, the project will be completed and handed over to the government,” he added.
He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing infrastructure projects without delay or abandonment, stressing that continuity and delivery remain top priorities.
The Rivers State Secretariat Complex, originally constructed in the 1970s following the creation of the state in 1967, remains one of the largest government administrative hubs in the region.
The facility comprises several high-rise structures, including the iconic 17-storey Point Block, the 10-storey Podium Block, and three additional seven-storey buildings known as Blocks A, B, and C.
The ongoing renovation is described as a full-scale modernization effort aimed at restoring and upgrading the facility to contemporary administrative standards.
The project includes structural rehabilitation, interior redesign, improved office layouts, upgraded utilities, and the installation of modern infrastructure to enhance efficiency and productivity in public service delivery.
When completed, the upgraded complex is expected to provide a more functional, technology-driven, and comfortable working environment for civil servants in the state.
