Dr. Deji Adeleke, billionaire businessman and father of Afrobeats superstar Davido, has addressed the ongoing paternity controversy involving his son. He confirmed that multiple DNA tests show the teenage girl at the center of the claim is not Davido’s child.
Speaking at a press briefing that went viral, Adeleke stressed that the family would have welcomed the child if the results had confirmed paternity.
The case involves Ayo Labinjo, an Ibadan-based woman, who claimed that her daughter, Anu, was fathered by Davido after a brief encounter early in his music career. The issue resurfaced recently after an Instagram post from the girl requesting another DNA test.
Dr. Adeleke clarified that the Adeleke family had conducted thorough verification. “If the child were truly our granddaughter, we would have accepted her without hesitation,” he said.
He traced the matter back to 2014 when he first received a package from Ibadan containing photos, a birth certificate, and a letter from the girl’s grandmother requesting a paternity test. Adeleke personally coordinated a DNA test at Vedic Lifecare Hospital, with samples analyzed in South Africa.
“Saliva samples were taken from both Davido and the child in the presence of all parties. When the results arrived, they showed zero percent probability of paternity,” Adeleke stated. He added that, to remove any doubt, he offered to conduct additional DNA tests at other reputable centers, all of which confirmed the initial findings.
Dr. Adeleke declined calls to release the DNA results publicly, citing privacy and security concerns. “It is dangerous for anyone’s DNA profile to be in the public domain. Both Davido and the child could be exposed to serious risks,” he explained.
He emphasized that the family never intended to deny a child, noting, “I already have 14 grandchildren. What is one more? But science is clear, and the results are conclusive.”
