The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has distributed cheques worth over ₦2.4 billion to families and beneficiaries of deceased police officers across the country.
According to a statement released by the Nigeria Police Force, the funds were presented to 1,075 beneficiaries during a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The total payout—amounting to ₦2,435,421,584.11—covers multiple policy years, including outstanding insurance claims from previous periods that had remained unsettled.
Speaking at the event, Force Insurance Officer Lydia Ameh noted that the disbursement reflects a renewed commitment by the police leadership to prioritize the welfare of officers and their families.
She explained that the payments include recovered funds from long-standing insurance obligations, with steps taken to ensure better compliance from insurance providers and reduce delays going forward.
In his address, IGP Disu described the initiative as more than financial assistance, calling it a tribute to officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation. He reaffirmed that supporting the families left behind remains a key focus of his leadership.
The police chief also pledged to improve welfare systems by embracing modern technology, streamlining administrative processes, and ensuring transparency in the handling of benefits.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated that the sacrifices of fallen officers remain vital to maintaining peace, security, and stability across the country.
