Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed suggestions that he is a late-comer or outsider in the opposition coalition based around the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reaffirming that he is genuinely aligned with the coalition’s objectives.

Obi clarified his stance during a live X Space session with Nigerians on Sunday, responding directly to critics who have questioned his role and level of commitment within the ADC structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Obi, his engagement with the coalition is longstanding, and he has been part of efforts to strengthen it from early on — a claim supported by officials who have described his involvement in the coalition’s strategic positioning.

The former Anambra governor pointed to his active support for coalition candidates in recent local elections, including his public backing of Dr. Mo in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship race in the Federal Capital Territory, as evidence of his deep engagement in the process.

Obi emphasised that his participation is not driven by a personal quest for power, but by a desire to build an inclusive political alternative rooted in competence, service and accountability.

“I am not here to chase office,” he said. “I am committed to seeing Nigeria work for all its people.”
He urged Nigerians not to be swayed by rumours or politically motivated attacks, arguing that the focus should remain on building a credible coalition that can deliver transformative leadership for the country.

Obi’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about the structure and future of the ADC coalition, which has attracted several opposition figures planning to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
