New data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) shows that Jigawa, Kano, and Lagos states are leading in the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which resumed in January.
According to figures released on Wednesday, Jigawa recorded the highest number of new registrants with over 210,000 eligible voters. Kano followed with more than 196,000 registrations, while Lagos recorded about 192,000.
At the lower end of the scale, Ekiti had the fewest new voters with just over 32,000 registrations. Other states with relatively low turnout include Anambra, Ondo, Enugu, and Plateau.
A breakdown by geopolitical zones indicates that the North-West is leading significantly with over 1.1 million registrants. It is followed by the North-Central, South-West, North-East, and South-South, while the South-East has the lowest figures.
The data also reveals a higher turnout among female voters, who make up over 55% of total registrations, compared to about 44% for male voters.
The CVR exercise, which began in August last year as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, is expected to run until August this year. Eligible Nigerians who have turned 18 since the last general election or are yet to register are encouraged to take part.
