Kenya has fulfilled its financial commitment to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), paying a $30 million hosting fee to secure its place as a co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The country’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, described the payment as a clear demonstration of Kenya’s readiness and dedication to successfully hosting the continental tournament.
He also revealed that the government has set up a restructured Local Organising Committee involving stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to oversee preparations.
According to him, planning efforts extend beyond funding, with discussions underway to create a coordinated system for visa processing, tax relief, customs arrangements, and smoother clearance of goods and services linked to the tournament.
Mvurya added that the initiative aligns with the vision of President William Ruto to position Kenya as a top destination for international sporting events.
He noted that hosting AFCON is expected to boost economic growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance the country’s global profile.
Kenya will co-host the tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania under the “Pamoja” partnership, highlighting regional cooperation aimed at delivering a successful and memorable 2027 AFCON.
