The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched an investigation into claims that some of its officials extorted commercial bus drivers along the Coastal Road.
The allegation, which gained attention through a Facebook post by Objectv Media, accused LASTMA officers of impounding vehicles and demanding ₦100,000 before releasing them.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the agency, through its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness. LASTMA emphasized that it has zero tolerance for misconduct, abuse of office, or any form of extortion.
According to the statement, a thorough, impartial, and comprehensive investigation is already underway, with assurances that any personnel found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary measures.
The agency also invited the individual behind the allegation, identified as Tosin, to appear at its headquarters in Oshodi and provide credible evidence to support the claims.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism, LASTMA urged the public to report any incidents of misconduct through the proper channels. It added that it remains dedicated to maintaining a traffic system built on fairness, orderliness, and respect for all road users.
