The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has opened an investigation into reports that civilians may have been affected during a recent airstrike in Jilli, located in Borno State.

In an official statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Air Force emphasized that it treats any allegation involving civilian harm with utmost concern, stressing that safeguarding innocent lives remains a core priority in all its operations.

According to the statement, the Chief of the Air Staff has directed the immediate deployment of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell) to the area to conduct a detailed fact-finding mission. The NAF also appealed to the public and media to avoid speculation while investigations are ongoing, assuring that the process will be transparent and thorough.

Meanwhile, reports from TVC News indicate that the strike was carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, targeting what was described as a terrorist stronghold near the abandoned village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area.

Further updates shared by the Nigerian Army revealed that the operation followed extensive intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance efforts around the Bindul–Jilli corridor—an area known for repeated movements by Islamic State West Africa Province fighters.

Military sources stated that multiple suspected террорист convoys, including motorcycles and gun trucks, were tracked converging at the location before the strike was executed on April 11, 2026. The Army said the operation successfully destroyed key logistics assets and neutralised several террорист elements, disrupting planned attacks in the region.

The strike comes amid heightened military activity in the North-East, following recent attacks in Ngamdu and Benisheik, as well as earlier incidents involving improvised explosive devices that resulted in casualties among troops.
