President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term. The renewed appointment officially took effect on Friday, February 27.
Dr Audi was initially appointed to head the Corps in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His first tenure concluded last Friday, coinciding with activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
With the extension of his tenure, Dr Audi is expected to resume full duties on Monday under a fresh mandate. President Tinubu has tasked him with strengthening and repositioning the NSCDC to enhance its contribution to national security, particularly as the Nigeria Police Force intensifies efforts against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Dr Audi began his academic journey in his home state. He earned a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from the Teachers’ College in Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987.
He later obtained a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992. In 1995, he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education.
Furthering his studies, he earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001. In 2014, he completed a PhD in Public Administration at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and later obtained a Master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.
Dr Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996. After completing basic officer training in 1997, he was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Over the years, he served in various state commands and rose through the ranks.
In 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Commandant and assigned to the office of the Commandant-General at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.
His reappointment signals continuity in leadership as the Corps seeks to expand its operational effectiveness nationwide.
