Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented official vehicles to Grade Level 17 officers in the state’s public service, describing the initiative as a strategic move to boost efficiency and improve service delivery.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, noting that the beneficiaries are directors who play a critical role in the performance of ministries, departments, and agencies across the state.
He explained that providing the vehicles was a deliberate effort to support these senior officers in carrying out their responsibilities more effectively, emphasizing that a well-equipped workforce is essential for good governance.
Sanwo-Olu added that when public servants are properly supported, they tend to be more committed, focused, and accountable in delivering results.
The initiative, according to him, is part of broader efforts by the state government to strengthen institutional performance and enhance productivity within the civil service.
This marks the third phase of such an exercise under his administration. In January 2023, shortly after his re-election, about 100 new vehicles were distributed to directors across key sectors, including education, healthcare, and the core civil service.
A similar distribution was carried out in July 2024 at the State Secretariat in Alausa, with officials noting that the program would continue periodically to ensure more directors benefit over time.
Grade Level 17 represents the highest rank in Nigeria’s civil service hierarchy, consisting of directors who head departments and serve as the most senior career officials within government institutions.
