The Lagos State Government has rewarded 177 exceptional public servants with five brand new vehicles and cash prizes amounting to ₦165.5 million, in a move aimed at recognising excellence and motivating sustained high performance in public service.
The gesture was announced in a statement released on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
The awards were presented by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the 2025 Mr. Governor’s Luncheon, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja. The ceremony brought together outstanding staff drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas across the state.
According to the statement, the awardees were divided into senior and junior categories. In the senior cadre, five of the 99 honourees emerged winners of brand new cars through a raffle draw, while the remaining 94 received ₦1 million each. In the junior category, five outstanding officers were awarded ₦5 million each, while 73 others received ₦500,000 each.
During the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu also announced the elevation of Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa, Director-General of the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, to the rank of Permanent Secretary. In addition, he approved a ₦10 million cash reward for staff of the office in recognition of their role in projecting Lagos positively at both national and international levels.
Addressing the gathering, the governor charged public servants to remain dedicated, disciplined and consistent in their duties, stressing that excellence must be a continuous habit rather than a one-time achievement. He described the awards as a deliberate policy to reward merit and inspire improved service delivery across the public sector.
Sanwo-Olu further noted that the progress recorded in the state was the outcome of teamwork and collective commitment, adding that the public service remains the backbone of effective governance and sustainable development.
Earlier, the Head of Service of Lagos State, Bode Agoro, disclosed that the 177 recipients were carefully selected from 312 nominations submitted by different MDAs, following a rigorous and transparent screening process.
Agoro praised the governor for his consistent support and commitment to the welfare of civil servants, urging workers to uphold professionalism, diligence and a strong sense of responsibility.
He added that the luncheon marked the climax of activities for the 2025 Public Service Week, which featured medical outreach programmes, fitness walks, support for children living with disabilities, long-service awards, a public lecture and talent competitions.
