Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, formerly married to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
News of the union surfaced on Friday after a member of the Dajoh family, Abraham Double-d Dajoh, shared a celebratory message on Facebook, confirming that the former Olori has been formally received into the Akume family in Mbakor, Benue State.
Although the marriage itself was conducted earlier, Queen Zaynab was officially welcomed into the ancestral home of the Dajoh family this December, marking a culturally significant moment for the family and the Tiv community.
In a message that quickly gained attention online, the Dajoh family described the marriage as special and unique, expressing pride in receiving the former queen as a member of their household.
They praised Senator Akume and warmly welcomed Queen Zaynab, now known as Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, while also appreciating supporters and political associates who have continued to stand by the SGF.
The family’s statement highlighted Mbakor as a place of heritage and leadership within Tiv land, extending a heartfelt welcome to the former Olori as she begins a new chapter of her life in Benue State.
Queen Zaynab was previously married to the Ooni of Ife for about 17 months before the union ended in 2017. Since then, she has remained prominent in humanitarian and social circles.
The announcement, which coincided with the Christmas season, also carried goodwill messages to Nigerians, wishing them festive celebrations and a prosperous new year.
Meanwhile, Senator Akume’s media aide, Yomi Odunuga, confirmed the marriage in a phone conversation, clarifying that while the couple appeared together at a Christmas event in Gboko, the marriage itself was not recent.
According to him, the union was formalised more than a year ago, contrary to reports suggesting it took place on Christmas Eve.
Senator Akume, a former governor of Benue State, remains a key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, and the marriage has since become a major topic of discussion across political and social platforms nationwide.
