A senior envoy linked to U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly urged FIFA to consider replacing Iran with Italy at the upcoming World Cup.

According to reports, special envoy Paolo Zampolli described the idea as a “dream,” citing Italy’s rich football history and four World Cup titles as justification for their inclusion—despite failing to qualify after a playoff defeat.

The proposal is also believed to be tied to diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, following disagreements over remarks related to the ongoing Iran conflict and criticism involving the Pope.

Italy, known as the Azzurri, recently missed out on qualification after losing on penalties to Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking another absence from the global tournament.
Meanwhile, Iran’s place at the competition has come under scrutiny due to geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Israel.

The country’s football authorities have reportedly explored the possibility of relocating their matches away from the U.S.

However, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has maintained that Iran remains part of the tournament and will compete as scheduled based on the official draw.

Zampolli, an Italian-American businessman known for his ties to Trump, has long been involved in international circles and previously claimed he introduced Trump to his wife,
