Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has hinted at possible changes within the state’s civil service following an unannounced inspection of the State Secretariat in Awka.

The visit, carried out on Thursday, was aimed at assessing staff punctuality, commitment, and overall performance across various ministries and departments. During the exercise, the governor interacted directly with civil servants to get a firsthand understanding of the current work environment.

Speaking after the inspection, Soludo described what he observed as a mixture of positives and shortcomings. While he acknowledged the dedication of some workers who consistently demonstrate professionalism and adherence to duty, he expressed concern over the attitude of others.

He praised diligent employees for their commitment, noting that they remain vital to the success of his administration’s development plans. However, he issued a firm warning to those who fail to meet expected standards, stating that non-performing staff risk being removed from the system.

The governor stressed that issues such as lateness and absenteeism would no longer be tolerated, adding that the era of poor work ethic in the civil service is coming to an end.

Soludo also outlined key reforms his administration is implementing to improve efficiency. These include the adoption of digital systems to streamline operations, stricter monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure accountability, and continued infrastructural upgrades to create a better working environment.
