The Akwa Ibom State Government has confirmed that its first-ever international flight will depart from Victor Attah International Airport to Kotoka International Airport on May 2, 2026.

Governor Umo Eno made the announcement, revealing that Ibom Air will operate the inaugural Uyo–Accra route, with a return flight scheduled for the following day.

The milestone comes after presidential approval granted the airport full international status, paving the way for global connectivity. According to the governor, the development is a major boost for the state’s aviation sector and aligns with efforts to promote tourism, trade, and investment.

He also acknowledged Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the upgrade, as well as Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo for supporting the project.

State Information Commissioner Aniekan Umanah described the launch as a strategic step toward enhancing international access and strengthening the state’s economic prospects.

The new route marks a significant leap for Akwa Ibom’s aviation ambitions, positioning the state as an emerging hub for regional and international travel.
