“I Am Not Desperate for Power, I Am Desperate for a Working Nigeria” — Peter Obi’s Heartbreaking Exit Statement
After a morning of deep reflection following church services, Peter Obi has officially broken his silence on why he is walking away from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a message that feels more like a manifesto of the soul than a political press release, Obi revealed the “silent pains” and “quiet battles” he has been fighting behind the scenes.
Obi painted a grim picture of Nigeria’s current political landscape, describing it as an environment where the system actively works against its people. He lamented a society where humility is mistaken for weakness, and where compassion is treated as foolishness.
“I have never used privilege to oppress the weak,” Obi stated, emphasizing that for him, leadership remains a sacrifice, not a tool for intimidation.
Clearing the air on his relationship with party leaders, Obi noted that his exit isn’t due to personal issues with Senator David Mark or Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he still holds in high regard.
Instead, he pointed to a more sinister cause: State Infiltration. He claimed that the same “agents” who destabilized the Labour Party have now brought their “endless court cases, suspicion, and division” into the ADC. He refused to stay in a house where he was being treated like an “outsider” despite his sincere contributions.
Obi addressed his critics head-on, asking why his prudent management of resources—investing in health and education—is constantly labeled as “stinginess,” and why his obedience to the law is called “weakness.”
In a powerful closing, the former Governor reminded Nigerians that his ambition isn’t tied to a title.
“I am not desperate to be President… I am desperate to see a mother whose child was kidnapped consoled. I am desperate to see a Nigeria where people live in homes, not IDP camps.”
Despite stepping “out into the cold” and facing continued attacks on his character, Peter Obi remains resolute. His final message remains a beacon for his followers: A New Nigeria is POssible.
