Tijani Fatai has officially taken over as the 42nd Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, succeeding Olohundare Jimoh, whose tenure spanned from February 2025 to March 2026.
A native of Agege in Lagos State, Fatai began his academic journey at Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, before earning a degree in Philosophy from Olabisi Onabanjo University (formerly Ogun State University).
He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has since built a career marked by extensive experience across operational, administrative, and leadership roles.
Before his latest appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Port in Port Harcourt. Over the years, he has held several strategic positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police in operations at both the Maritime Force Headquarters Annex and the Lagos State Command.
His professional background also includes roles as Assistant Commissioner in finance and administration at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, as well as Area Commander in various locations such as Ilaro, Maiduguri, and Surulere. Additionally, he has led Police Mobile Force units in Benin and Akure, and served in investigative and divisional capacities within Lagos and Ogun states.
Fatai is also affiliated with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, reflecting his exposure to international policing standards.
Widely regarded for his discipline and leadership qualities, the new commissioner has pledged to strengthen security operations in Lagos. He assured residents of his commitment to improving safety, boosting collaboration among security agencies, and fostering stronger ties with communities.
The Lagos State Police Command has urged the public to support the new leadership as efforts continue to enhance professionalism, accountability, and service delivery across the state.
