Ukraine has reportedly resumed drone attacks targeting Russia’s oil and energy infrastructure shortly after a temporary ceasefire initiative backed by U.S. President Donald Trump came to an end.
According to Russian authorities, several regions were targeted overnight as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues into its fourth year.
Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 286 Ukrainian drones across different parts of the country during the latest wave of attacks.
Oil and Gas Facilities Reportedly Hit
Officials in Russia’s Krasnodar region said debris from intercepted drones sparked a fire near an industrial facility in the village of Volna, close to the Taman oil export port and related terminals.
Authorities in the Astrakhan region also confirmed a separate incident involving a gas processing plant located near the Caspian Sea.
Regional governor Igor Babushkin stated that Russian air defence and electronic warfare systems successfully neutralised the drones, but falling debris triggered a fire at the facility.
He added that emergency teams quickly responded to the scene and no casualties or injuries were reported.
The affected plant is located roughly 1,675 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
Ukraine Intensifies Pressure on Russia’s Energy Sector
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian oil refineries, fuel depots and energy facilities in recent months as part of efforts to weaken Moscow’s economic and military capabilities.
Analysts say the strategy is aimed at reducing revenues generated from Russia’s energy exports, which remain a major source of funding for the war effort.
The renewed attacks come shortly after a three-day ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States expired without a broader peace agreement.
