U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to hold talks with foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) in France on Friday, with discussions expected to focus heavily on the escalating situation involving Iran.

The meeting follows comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently claimed that Washington has been engaging in dialogue with Tehran—a statement Iranian officials have rejected. Trump had also temporarily suspended his earlier threat to target Iran’s power infrastructure.

This trip marks Rubio’s first international engagement since the United States and Israel launched military actions against Iran on February 28. The talks will take place in Cernay-la-Ville, a town near Versailles on the outskirts of Paris.

According to the U.S. State Department, the meeting will address several global issues, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, tensions in the Middle East, and broader threats to international peace and stability.

France currently holds the presidency of the G7, which comprises major industrialized nations including the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Japan, alongside the United States.

Although all G7 members maintain close ties with Washington, none has openly endorsed the military actions against Iran—a stance that has reportedly frustrated Trump.

In a recent joint statement, G7 foreign ministers called for an “immediate and unconditional” halt to Iran’s attacks on U.S. allies in the Middle East.

Iran, in recent weeks, has launched multiple missile and drone strikes targeting Gulf nations that are key partners of the United States. These developments have heightened tensions in the region and contributed to a sharp rise in global oil and gas prices.
