Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has declared that he can rebuild Nigeria within four years if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Amaechi made the statement after submitting his presidential nomination forms at the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja.
The former Rivers State governor said Nigerians should focus on competence, leadership ability and proven performance when choosing the country’s next president, rather than ethnic or regional sentiments.
Amaechi Urges Nigerians to Vote Based on Performance
According to Amaechi, every major presidential contender has held public office at some point and should therefore be judged by their track records.
He challenged Nigerians to examine the achievements of aspirants before deciding who deserves support in 2027.
The former minister pointed to his tenure as Rivers State governor and later as Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari as evidence of his leadership experience.
Amaechi insisted that he possesses the political experience, capacity and national appeal needed to defeat the ruling party and lead the country effectively.
“I believe I have the experience and the ability to turn the country around within four years,” he stated.
Amaechi Attacks Tinubu Administration Over Hardship
Amaechi also criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, blaming it for worsening economic conditions and hardship across the country.
He argued that the “it is our turn” style of politics contributed to Nigeria’s current challenges, insisting that leadership should be based on merit rather than entitlement.
According to him, the rising cost of living and economic difficulties affect all Nigerians regardless of tribe, religion or region.
Amaechi further questioned why the ruling APC intends to seek another term despite widespread public dissatisfaction over economic conditions.
Position on ADC Presidential Primary
Speaking on the ADC presidential ticket, Amaechi said he prefers a direct primary election process but would accept a consensus arrangement if party members choose him as the preferred candidate.
However, he maintained that he remains fully prepared to contest in a competitive primary if necessary.
