Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress primary election for the Surulere 1 seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Elliot announced his decision on Wednesday during the party primary held at the Paddington Mini Stadium in Western Avenue, Lagos.
According to the lawmaker, many of his supporters were allegedly prevented from entering the venue despite several appeals to electoral officials. He claimed there were repeated acts of intimidation targeting his camp throughout the exercise.
Speaking before leaving the venue, Elliot said he chose to step down from the race to prevent any possible unrest, stressing that no political contest should lead to violence or loss of lives.
After the announcement, his supporters staged a peaceful protest before exiting the venue with him. He also urged the APC leadership to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of party primaries across the state.
