Sanwo-Olu endorses Hamzat

Babajide Sanwo-Olu has publicly backed Obafemi Hamzat as his preferred successor for the 2027 Lagos governorship race, signalling a major political development ahead of the next election cycle.

The endorsement followed a closed-door meeting at Lagos House in Marina, where Hamzat formally informed members of the State Executive Council and key party stakeholders of his intention to contest. Prominent figures, including Musiliu Obanikoro and Ganiyu Solomon, were present at the gathering.

Speaking after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu described the decision as a collective one, noting that those in attendance were united in their support for the deputy governor. He expressed strong confidence in Hamzat’s leadership ability, highlighting his experience, competence, and deep understanding of the state’s governance structure.

The governor praised Hamzat’s track record in office, citing his dedication, loyalty, and consistent support throughout their time working together. According to him, years of close collaboration have demonstrated that Hamzat is well-equipped to take on the responsibility of leading Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the influence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, crediting him for laying the political foundation that brought both leaders into their current roles.

He added that the endorsement came after broad consultations with party leaders and government officials, describing the meeting as peaceful and unified, with a clear consensus that Hamzat is prepared to step into the governorship role.
