Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially led a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State into a political alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The alliance was formalised in Ibadan through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), a move expected to allow politicians loyal to Makinde to contest future elections under the APM platform instead of the PDP.
The development marks a significant political shift within the opposition camp as internal crises continue to unsettle the PDP at the national level.
Makinde Declares Interest in 2027 Presidency
During the event, Governor Makinde also publicly declared his intention to run for President of Nigeria in 2027.
Addressing supporters and party stakeholders at the gathering, the governor announced his ambition before a cheering crowd that welcomed the declaration with chants and applause.
The rally attracted political supporters, loyalists and key stakeholders, with many observers describing it as an early mobilisation structure for Makinde’s national political ambition.

The agreement was signed by party representatives from both sides.
Seyi Bamidele signed on behalf of the PDP faction, while Oladele Oyadeji represented the APM.
Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, also endorsed the alliance agreement.
The arrangement is expected to create a political pathway for candidates aligned with Makinde to contest governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly elections using the APM platform in 2027.
