President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe to take over as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by presidential aide Olusegun Dada via a statement shared on X, noting that the nomination has already been forwarded to the Senate for screening in line with constitutional requirements.

Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, who left office to pursue an elective political position.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tegbe is a seasoned expert in fiscal policy and economic reforms, bringing over three decades of experience across both public and private sectors.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in governance reform, institutional restructuring, and fiscal policy development. Over the years, he has worked closely with government agencies and private organizations on regulatory frameworks, strategic planning, and investment design.

Tegbe currently holds the position of Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he plays a key role in strengthening bilateral cooperation and driving development initiatives between Nigeria and China.

His professional background also includes involvement in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms, working with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
