Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a stern warning to politicians he claims are secretly funding the bandits responsible for the mass abduction of schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking to newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students at his Ibadan residence on Wednesday, Igboho declared that he is fully aware of the identities of the political figures bankrolling the criminal gangs — and would publicly expose them if the attacks do not stop.
The activist revealed that he personally volunteered to lead an operation to flush out the kidnappers from their forest hideouts, but was blocked by the Oyo State Government, which warned that any such move could endanger the lives of the abducted children.
He also disclosed that despite receiving Federal Government approval to operate his security outfit, “Iru Ekun Security Network,” state authorities ordered a halt to all activities. Igboho maintained that he never requested a single kobo from Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to carry out the rescue, insisting the bandits could be dislodged if given the green light.
The crisis traces back to May 15, when armed men stormed three schools — Baptist Nursery and Primary School Yawota, Community Grammar School Esiele, and L.A. Primary School — abducting no fewer than 45 pupils.
The situation took a horrifying turn when one of the kidnapped teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was beheaded by the bandits in a video circulated online.
Igboho linked the orchestrated chaos to a deliberate political agenda aimed at destabilising President Tinubu’s administration, drawing parallels with similar tactics allegedly used during former President Jonathan’s tenure.
