Drama in Port Harcourt as Kingsley Chinda secures the Rivers APC governorship ticket for the 2027 election following Governor Fubara’s sudden exit.

The political chessboard in Rivers State has shifted yet again.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially crowned Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The announcement was made on Thursday at the party’s state secretariat in Port Harcourt.

Bitrus Kwamoti, the chairman and returning officer of the APC governorship primary election committee, declared the final figures after collating votes across all 23 local government areas.

A Landslide Solo Run

Running as a consensus, sole candidate, Chinda secured a staggering total of 268,497 votes.

“Ogundu Kingsley, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines… is hereby declared the winner,” Kwamoti announced during the official declarations.

The primary unfolded under the watchful eyes of heavy political heavyweights. Local analysts note that the outcome heavily spotlights the strong influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, whose loyalists wield massive control within the state’s APC structure.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The Governor sent shockwaves through the state’s political space after releasing a formal address confirming his complete withdrawal from the primary race, leaving the field wide open for Chinda.
